It will help to get the resistance closer to 50 ohms. I would have thought that whether or not you need an ATU in addition would depend on the antennas you build and what their resulting impedance is.

The vertical antenna works exceptionally well, particularly when utilised near saltwater and I can certainly testify to this from experience in the field. By far the best tool I have in my collection is the iP60z analyzer.
Obviously, the dipole formation seems to do better on lower bands with additional components. I was expecting those same photographs to be in color in the book, as well as plot lines on the graphs. The vertical configurations are the easiest for me to set up and definitely the easiest to buddipole give them a try!
